Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to obtain your Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) certification, which serves as the fundamental building block for a future in the healthcare field. As a CNA, you will learn essential skills such as bathing, dressing, and grooming patients. This class is particularly beneficial for students aspiring to pursue a path in nursing, as many nursing schools require CNA certification as a prerequisite for acceptance.

Health Careers is a one-year course for high school juniors which serves as a foundation for anyone preparing for employment in the healthcare field.
This course will provide you with the opportunity to obtain your CPR and CNA certification as well as high school credit for Anatomy & Physiology.
After successful completion of this course, you will have gained their pre-requisites to enroll in the Advanced Health Careers, Medical Assisting, Medical Front Office, Pharmacy Technician, or Biomedical Sciences programs the following school year.

Dr. Carla Harris from Dr. Carla Chiropractic spoke to our Health Careers class in Sapulpa on chiropractic care, its advantages, and the path to becoming a chiropractor. 🦴
She emphasized to students the significance of correct alignment, posture, and skeletal well-being. Additionally, she showcased the process of adjustments and the aspects chiropractors examine during these procedures.

Dr. Michael Hyland from Hyland Physical Therapy and Wellness recently visited with our Health Careers students in Sapulpa. 🩺
He provided insights into Parkinson’s Disease and discussed their future responsibilities in caring for patients with this condition. Dr. Hyland also highlighted the importance of various healthcare roles in supporting individuals with Parkinson’s.

Congratulations State HOSA Winners!
Health Careers student Jennifer Salazar won 2nd place in Nursing Assisting, Sapulpa High School. The Health Careers class on Central Tech’s Sapulpa campus was recognized as a 2021-2022 Silver Star Chapter.
Medical Front Office student Abbi Norman took 1st place HOSA extemporaneous writing. And her instructor Paula Estrada won HOSA Outstanding Postsecondary Advisor.

Health Careers students on the Sapulpa campus had fun in their own escape room and scavenger hunt last week. The hands-on escape room required students to complete questions to give them a code to escape 4 rooms before finally escaping the lab. Students then participated in a scavenger hunt where they had to locate the correct QR codes on mannequins to open up medical websites to find new information about vital signs.

In May, Health Careers students on the Sapulpa campus participated in geriatric sensitivity training. They wore a neck brace to reduce neck mobility and suits that added weight to their arms, legs, and torso. They also wore gloves and glasses that mimicked potential age-related disorders.

“You can be the reason someone lives, the reason someone wants to not give up, or the reason someone isn’t depressed or lonely because their family isn’t able to come see them because of COVID. You can be the hand they are needing to hold, arm they just need to touch, or hug they need to feel the warmth of someone because maybe the person they want to hug isn’t able to come see them. I will never take for granted this job and the things I can do for others.
