TOOLBOX BASICS

This course will provide you with the knowledge of safe use and operation of common hand and power tools, focusing on techniques for safe handling, proper operation, and tool maintenance.

Hand Tools:

  • Overview of hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, etc.)
  • Tool materials and quality: How to choose the right tool.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for tool usage.
  • Safe lifting techniques and posture for ergonomic tool use.
  • Hands-on Practice: Grip techniques, basic usage of hand tools.
  • Practice with basic hand tools on soft materials (wood, plastic).

Power Tools and Electrical Safety:

  • Power tool types: drills, sanders, saws, etc.
  • Electrical safety: understanding voltage, current, and grounding.
  • Inspection and maintenance: Checking cords, plugs, and outlets.
  • PPE for power tool operation.
  • Hands-on Practice: Operating power drills and sanders.

Advanced Power Tools and Specialty Equipment:

  • Introduction to jigsaws, circular saws, angle grinders.
  • Safe handling of cutting tools: sharpness, speed control, and pressure.
  • Work area setup: Safe workspace practices, ventilation, and lighting.
  • Emergency stop procedures.
  • Hands-on Practice: Cutting materials (wood or light metal).
  • Activity: Guided use of jigsaws and saws on prepared materials.

Tool Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Wrap-up:

  • Routine maintenance: Cleaning, lubrication, and storage.
  • Sharpening cutting tools and replacing blades.
  • Diagnosing common issues with power tools.
  • Final safety review: Accident prevention and first-aid basics.
  • Hands-on Practice: Sharpening and maintaining tools.
