Every February, Central Tech opens its doors to the community for an exciting, hands-on Open House event, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how students prepare for the workforce using the latest technology. Held February 16th on the Sunday before Presidents’ Day from 1-4 p.m., this annual tradition happens simultaneously on both campuses, welcoming visitors of all ages to experience live demonstrations, hands-on activities, and a variety of fun activities.

More Than a Tour—An Experience

Unlike a typical school open house, Central Tech’s event is far from a simple walk-through of classrooms. Visitors can roll up their sleeves and engage in hands-on activities across dozens of career fields, from playing putt-putt against a robot and joining an Esports tournament to competing in virtual welding and having your blood sugar checked for free. The day is packed with over 90 activities, live demonstrations, and even a car show. And, of course, food is part of the fun with free pop, free popcorn, and $1 hot dogs while supplies last.

“This is one of our biggest events of the year because it allows the community to see firsthand how we’re training the workforce of tomorrow,” said Kent Burris, superintendent of Central Tech. “Whether you’re a future student, a parent, a business owner, or just curious about what we do, Open House is the perfect opportunity to see our programs in action.”

A Longstanding Tradition

Originally created in 1970, Open House has grown into a community-wide celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Now, as a Gold Star School, Central Tech continues the tradition to support CTE Month and showcase its exceptional training programs.

Visitors can explore a wide range of career training options, meet instructors and students, and discover pathways to high-paying, in-demand jobs.

More Than Education—Business Training & Workforce Development

At Central Tech, we do more than train students—we help businesses grow. Our Workforce & Economic Development team works directly with companies to provide customized training solutions designed to keep businesses competitive in an evolving market. We offer expert training in agribusiness, business consulting and start-ups, industrial training, oil and gas, polyfusion, and safety & OSHA compliance. If your business has a unique challenge, come meet our team in the seminar center during open house.

Step out in technology and try your hand at virtual welding, laparoscopic surgery, voice commands, plasma cutting, and driving a VEX robot. Central Tech teaches skills needed for today’s jobs. Come see what’s new and available to you.

And of course, Open House wouldn’t be what it is without car and motorcycle shows. See Corvettes in Sapulpa or stock and modified cars and trucks, race cars, and motorcycles in Drumright.

Children will enjoy visiting a live-bug petting zoo, digging up and labeling bones, seeing the germs on their hands, participating in the kids’ hospital where they are the doctor, face and nail painting, climbing inside emergency vehicles, operating a robot, checking on chicken eggs that may be hatching, and taking a picture with their family.

If you’re interested in construction, electrical trades, or welding be sure you tour the shops and get involved in the action. Interested in how the world around you is designed? Come by the Design Drafting classroom to see a 3D printer in action.

In Drumright, visit the seminar center to see polyfusion demonstrations, a storage tank floating roof simulator, and experience confined space in the safety trailer.

In Sapulpa, stop by the Industrial and Safety Training Center for the fire extinguisher trainer contest, participate in the overhead and mobile crane obstacle course, and learn about HVAC on one of their many trainers.

Doors open at 1 p.m. on both campuses with activities happening throughout each of the buildings. Bring your family and your appetite. Central Tech will have food vendors along with free popcorn while supplies last. There is something for the whole family to experience.

Students and faculty at Central Tech will also join others across the nation during the month of February to celebrate national Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®. This year’s tagline is Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow! CTE Month provides CTE programs across the country with an opportunity to demonstrate how CTE makes students college and career ready, and prepares them for high-wage, high-demand career fields.
