WELDING/FABRICATION TECHNOLOGY

EARLY MORNING WELDING
Tuition Free, 100% Job Placement

Classes start as early as 5am and 6am. Classes are enrolling now and start frequently.

Students do a hard focus on structural welding for three weeks. Upon passing the 3g test, they go straight to work for a great company within the area. Students who choose to learn pipe welding spend an extra three weeks in class. As soon as they are ready, they sit for the 6g test. If you already have welding experience, you may be eligible to take tests earlier than the expected time. Personal equipment, hood and gloves not included in tuition – approximate student responsibility $40.

Please contact Shelly at 918.227.9260 or shelly.rentz@centraltech.edu to enroll.

DAYTIME WELDING
Beginning in August

Welding is a vital part of our society’s infrastructure. As a result, career opportunities in the welding field are endless and in-demand.  Upon successful completion of this program, students will be ready for the challenges of this growing field. The Welding program teaches various methods to permanently fuse metals by applying intense heat and filler metal. Students will learn basic blueprint reading, metallurgy, safety, testing, fabrication, as well as inspection. Theoretical and practical study covers carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials. Curriculum includes instruction in Oxy-Fuel Cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux-Cored Arc Welding, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding techniques. Successful welders have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, physical strength and a working knowledge of mathematical processes. Other personal characteristics include the ability to work in close quarters, tolerance of strong odors, heat and bright light. In addition, welders must work well with others and in independent setting.

EVENING WELDING

Learning to weld with a stick or wire feed welder is an essential skill for hardcore and even moderate enthusiasts. Nuts and bolts can only take you so far. Eventually, if you’re serious about customizing and fabrication, you’re going to have to learn to weld. This useful skill will open new fabrication options for your projects that may have seemed impossible before. In the basic welding class offered by Central Tech you will learn about safety equipment, cutting torch, welder set-up and stick & wire feed welding techniques. With practice, patience, and the proper equipment, you can learn to fabricate and weld your own projects. If you like it, we encourage you to continue learning new skills through our five phases of welding.

PHASE 1 Welding Fundamentals (60 hours): In this class you will learn about safety equipment, welding joints and positions, welding and cutting processes, Oxyfuel Gas cutting equipment and supplies, and plasma arc cutting.

PHASE 2 Shielded Metal Arch Welding (SMAW) & Stick Welding (153 hours): Learn to select the correct electrode, current, and polarity for welding with the SMAW process. You will also learn how to strike a welding arc and create acceptable welds on all five basic joints in all positions.

PHASE 3 Gas Metal & Flux Cored Arc Welding (GMAW & FCAW), Mig-Wire Feed Welding (117 hours): Learn how to select the proper arc welding machine, wire feeder, shielding gas, flow rate, and welding wire type to produce an acceptable weld in all types of joints in all positions.

PHASE 4: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), TIG, Print Reading, Weld Symbols, Weld Gauges, Inspecting & Testing Welds (110 hours): Learn to select the proper welding source, polarity, shielding gas, flow rate, tungsten type and diameter, nozzle size, and filler rod to produce an acceptable weld. You will also learn how to read prints, inspect, and test your welds.

Phase 5: Pipe and Tube Welding (110 hours): Learn to weld pipe and tube using SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes. You will also learn about non-destructive evaluation methods for pipe weld quality.
