Central Tech Staff Win Awards

This summer was a summer of honors for several Central Tech employees.

At the 49th annual Oklahoma Career and Technology Education Summer Conference held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City August 1, four awards went to Central Tech.

Former Central Tech Superintendent Phil Waul earned Oklahoma CareerTech’s most prestigious award, the Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award. The Francis Tuttle Career Excellence Award was established in 1985 in honor of Francis Tuttle, former state director of the Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education and architect of what is now called the CareerTech System. The award recognizes individuals whose careers exemplify Tuttle’s dedication to the development of people through career and technology education. It is given only to a recipient who has made contributions of state or national significance.

Central Tech was recognized as an Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education (OKACTE) Gold Star school. This award is designed to recognize technology center districts that have met rigid and demanding criteria demonstrating a high level of excellence. This program provides recognition to districts with exemplary programs designed to meet a broad spectrum of community needs. Central Tech is the only school to achieve Gold Star status since inception in 1990.

Linda Enlow received the Oklahoma NTHS Stars of Excellence Award. The award is given for service the candidate has provided to promote scholarship, career and technology education and most importantly NTHS, as well as, leadership to the candidate’s profession, scholarship, career and technology education, and to NTHS at the local, state, and/or national level.

Stephanie Pool was honored at the conference with CareerTech’s highest Communications and Marketing Award. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique or novel programs that are serving to improve and promote CareerTech.

In June, the Oklahoma Association for Pupil Transportation (OAPT) awarded Central Tech’s Transportation Director Kevin Holba Administrator of the Year. Tyler North was also honored during the conference and was named Mechanic of the Year. OAPT is an alliance of school bus directors, mechanics, and drivers that have joined forces in a dedicated and strategic front to promote bus safety on a professional level to students across the state.
