Detention Officer & Dispatcher

Many police officers begin their career as a dispatcher or working in jails since they can start work at 18 years old. Detention officers for correction centers are in high demand with an average starting salary of $17 an hour.  

In addition, you will learn radio and dispatching skills. Did you know dispatchers make $15-$17 an hour? 

After successful completion of the course, you can immediately apply for a job as a security guard, dispatcher, and detention officer.  

Crime Scene Investigations Training

As a cadet, you will study: 

  • Basic Evidence Handling and Processing 
  • Basic Crime Scene Processing Including Diagrams and Photographing the Scene 
  • Forensic Science  
  • Interrogating Techniques 
  • Prepare for and Testifying in Court Cases 

Police Officer Training

Cadets can learn many of the same skills taught to police academy officers. We cover all facets of daily police work including: 

  • Answering Officer Calls  
  • Custody, Control, Fitness, and Firearm Familiarization  
  • Making Arrests  
  • Patrol 
  • Writing Reports  

Unarmed Security Guard

This class prepares you to sit for the Oklahoma State Unarmed Security Guard License. With successful completion of the exam and background check, you are ready to go to work protecting and monitoring properties against criminal attack or damage. In this part of the class, you will study:  

  • Administering First Aid and Operating Fire Extinguishers 
  • Interpret the Oklahoma Security Act 
  • Investigating Security Incidents  
  • Patrolling 
  • Public Relations and Communications 
  • Terrorist Awareness 
  • Writing Field Notes and Reports 

ACCIDENTS
Any chargeable accident within the past three (3) years will be subject to review. An accident report will be required.

OFFENSE
A student is allowed two (2) moving offenses during the three (3) years prior to their entry date. A student may not have any careless or reckless driving convictions.

Specific requirements are detailed on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website:  Effective, May 21, 2014, only doctors who registered through the national registry of FMCSA are allowed to do DOT physicals. Download forms MCSA-5878 and MCSA-5876 under New Driver Examination Forms.

General DOT requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Has no loss of a foot, leg, hand, arm, or has no impairment of the use of the foot, leg, hand, fingers, arm, or any other structural defect which interferes with their ability to control and safely drive a motor vehicle.
  • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of Diabetes currently requiring insulin for control. (You may be able to obtain an exemption with Federal Motor Carrier)
  • Has no current clinical diagnosis of High Blood Pressure likely to interfere with their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of Epilepsy or any other condition which is likely to cause unconsciousness or any loss of ability to control a motor vehicle.

Must be able to read and speak the English language fluently enough to converse with the general public, to understand the highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records. Seventh-grade reading and math level recommended.

Manufacturer’s Sales Tax Exemption

Incubators serve to reduce the cost, risk, and time to grow a sustainable new venture and create a spirit of “cooperative self-reliance”. They provide entrepreneurs with an array of targeted resources, professional advice, education, training, and mentorship. Additionally, tenants of our certified incubator facilities are exempt from state tax liability on income earned as a result of occupancy for up to ten years. Upon qualification, the exemption remains in effect after the tenant is no longer an incubator occupant.

Health Unit Clerk

This curriculum prepares you for the workforce. Health unit coordinators work in a general office function at doctor’s offices, hospitals, and nursing homes coordinating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers. Their job is typically comprised of:

  • Answering phones
  • Ordering supplies
  • Patient paperwork (admissions, personal information, discharge)
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Transcribing doctor’s orders

One-way students prepare for this is by partnering up and taking medical history of each other to practice exam questions and computer input.

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

This curriculum prepares for you to sit for the CNA certification exam. As a registered certified nurse assistant, you will provide basic care to patients such as:

  • Assisting with daily activities (bathing, dressing, grooming, catheter care, safe transferring, etc.)
  • Medical record charting
  • Take vitals (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, height, and weight)
  • You may choose to add and test for home health aide (HHA) deeming allowing you to provide routine personal care services to patients in their home

After obtaining your CNA, you can obtain your certified medication aide (CMA) if you are interested in administering medication to patients.

Stop the Bleed

This national awareness campaign teaches skills needed to help stop a bleed in an emergency situation while waiting for professional help to arrive.

Health Promotion

Did you know your food choices can improve, prevent, or cure disease?

  • Discover healthy food choices for certain diseases
  • Research fast food nutrition and create healthy options
  • Proper hand-washing technique (and sometimes teaching it to young children)
  • Experience alternative and complementary therapies
  • Art therapy
  • Massage therapy
  • Music therapy

Legal/Ethical Considerations in Healthcare

Healthcare providers are held accountable for their actions. It is important to understand proper code of conduct, ethical standards, moral values, social responsibility, human rights, and legal compliance. You will have the opportunity to research the hot topics and debate their legal and ethical dilemmas.

  • To vaccinate or not to vaccinate
  • People who refuse lifesaving blood transfusions due to their religious beliefs
  • Examine case studies of actual court cases

Team Work & Team Building

Teamwork can only be accomplished through student participation. Here are a few examples:

  • Outside games to get to know your classmates and understand the importance of teamwork
  • Group projects where each student takes on a specific role in healthcare scenarios
  • Review case studies to identify key roles in healthcare teams
  • The Humpty Dumpty Experiment. Working as a team, each student must work with a disability (ex. use one arm) to build a protective devise for an egg, and finally test their contraption
