Sports Officiating
This course provides the opportunities to acquire knowledge, skill, and experience to function effectively as a sports official.
In this class you will study and interpret the rules for football and basketball. You will learn the officiating calls and hand signals for each sport as well as the role of a sports official in maintaining fair play. The class will stress:
- Code of Ethics for Officials
- Communication
- Dealing with Aggressive Behavior
- Mechanics
- Officiating Tips
- Philosophies of Officiating
- Preventative Officiating
High school students: participants can officiate games below their level of play.
- The fall class covers football and basketball.
- The spring class covers baseball, softball, and soccer.
