The Industrial Maintenance Program offers a sequence of courses designed to prepare individuals for employment in various manufacturing environments. While individuals are encouraged to complete the entire sequence of courses in the order listed, beginning with safety, and earn an Industrial Maintenance Certificate, each course may be taken as an individual stand-alone course. After completion of the career track, students will receive certification in the following areas: OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, forklift, bridge crane, DC electricity, AC electricity, hydraulics & pneumatics, industrial motor control, programmable control (PLC) and will finish with the Industrial Maintenance Certificate. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, the starting salary for individuals with this certification is $22 an hour.
Anyone age 16 or older may enroll in a short-term class on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain regulations may apply. Enrollment is taken by the Adult Education/ACD staff Monday through Thursday from 8AM-9:30PM.
Safety Health and Work Practices
Introduction to occupational safety, health and environmental practices, and associated equipment including: safety mindset and attitude, personal safety equipment, general safety policies and procedures, hazards communications, emergency response, first aid and CPR, industrial hygiene, exposure monitoring, and environmental compliance. This course will give students an overview of various governmental regulations mandated by OSHA. Additionally this course covers forklift and bridge crane certification.
DC Electricity & Electronics
An introductory course in basic electricity teaching the electrical properties of materials, units, basic electrical laws and theorems, and electrical circuits and components. This hands-on course gives the students experience with electronic design software used in troubleshooting circuits.
AC Electricity & Electronics
Introduction to alternating current electricity: A study of the characteristics of sine wave including the amplitude, frequency period, and phase relationships analyzing AC circuits by use of AC network theorems, resonant circuits, and filter circuits. This course will include basic electric motors and circuit control components.
Industrial Motor Control
This course will provide you with a working knowledge and understanding of the operating principles, applications, and troubleshooting of electromechanical motor control systems.
Hydraulics and Pneumatics
A study of hydraulic and pneumatic systems as it relates to fluids, energy and power, pump actuators, control devices, flow distribution, and industrial applications.
Students will study programmable controllers as they relate to the control of automated systems that includes memory system and I/O interaction, specifications, wiring logic concepts, number systems and codes, the instruction set, ladder logic programming, and application problems.
Machinists work in prototyping new parts, on production lines, and in repair and maintenance facilities. Machinists provide a necessary and vital service to all industries. In this course you will be introduced on how to use a manual engine lathe and a vertical mill to make intricate, precise, and complex parts with a high degree of repeatable accuracy.
